Review:
Blythe Barton Stowe has fled to a small cottage on a remote Cornish estate to lick her wounds after a messy divorce from her Hollywood director husband. Blythe thought his cheating with her sister was bad enough, until they married hours after the divorce because of her sister’s pregnancy. Blythe is taking time to recover while researching family history in Cornwall. Little does she expect to find a new career and maybe a new reason to open her heart.
Lucas Teague is desperate to save his ancestral estate from ruinous taxes, so the rental of the cottage is welcome cash flow. When he sees the beautiful Blythe, he realizes that her coming may be a double blessing to his cold, and austere life. Soon Blythe and Lucas are planning a business that could herald a new life for both and save the estate. But Blythe finds herself experiencing scenes from what might be an ancestor’s life, leaving Blythe questioning her sanity and whether to trust Lucas with this information. Also, forces from Blythe’s past soon intrude, threatening to destroy her chances for happiness and a future with Lucas. Can these two overcome past tragedies to build a life for themselves together?
Cottage by the Sea was originally published in 1997 by Ciji Ware, but it is a timeless novel that grabs the reader today just as easily as when it first came out. With engaging characters, an engrossing plot, and entertaining dialogue, Ciji Ware’s work is a treat for fans of both historical sagas and contemporary romance. A must read novel of 1997 and 2010.
